Cat losing fur after death of brother

What could be causing my 8-month old female cat to start losing all of her hair suddenly after losing her brother to kidney failure?

This sounds to me like it could be caused by anxiety.

Your cat may be feeling anxious since her brother has gone. Although she may not understand that he has died she will obviously have noticed that he is no longer around.

Some cats when feeling anxious will do what is known as over grooming which will cause the fur to come out and cause bald patches.
