How to train kitten to use scratching posts etc.

What can I do to train our male cat to use his scracthing pads and post? He is 6 months old. I will gladly send you money through the mail in the form of a check but I don't do the internet only because I here to may bad things. Leave an address for me to send money and I will glady do that.
