Licking/Cleaning cats

Okay I have a male and female cat. Both are fixed and indoor cats. My family and I have noticed the male cat (this is going to sound gross but here it goes)licking the female's anal area. I'm wondering if she is okay or what do you think of this. Sorry but I had to ask. By the way, they are both indoor cats and 1 year and 2 months old.

well I will put my hands up here and say i really don't know why your cat is doing this. All I can say is that grooming is a very socail bonding excercise for animals and so this may purley be the reason. even that area needs a a clean.

I have even tried to look up some resources to see if I could find anything on this but to no avail. perhaps someone else who visits this site will have experience of this and be able to suggest a reason.
