Recently given birth cat with gas

Our cat had kittens about 3 weeks ago. Recently, we noticed that it smells like she is constantly farting. The smell is awful, and even the kittens seem to be reacting to it. We have been feeding her the same food, but have recently started adding canned food to her diet in hopes of helping her put some weight back on. All 5 kittens are doing fine, but we can't figure out what is causing the gas.

Sometimes a change in diet can cause tummy upsets for awhile until the cats digestive system gets used to it. It could be that the food is too rich for her or she is eating too much of it too soon.

My advice would be to reduce the amount of canned food you give her so that the ratio of her old food is two thirds of the new food. This should help to reduce the upset. If not then you will have to stop feeding her the new food altogether and then give her time for her system to settle down again.
