11 Year old cat losing weight, peeing and pooing on the floor.

I have an 11 year old female cat, she was spayed when she was just a kitten. Recently she has been drinking a lot of water and peeing and pooing on the floor next to her litter box. It also seems like she is loosing a lot of weight, she seems alot lighter when I lift her. Any ideas what could be wrong? I am having to clean up pee off of carpet every day and it is beginning to get very frustrating. I am going to take her to the vet but she gets very upset in the car. Please help!

It could be feline diabetes the symptoms do match but the vet will do some tests to determine the correct diagnosis.
