12yr old female cat peeing everywhere

my 12yr old cat keeps peeing everywhere, i clean the litter box twice a day morning and night and she still pees elsewhere bed, clothing, dog crate, now my couch i cannot handle it anymore, ive had her since she was a kitten and its getting worse i cannot afford to keep replacing my furniture, im seriously thinking about putting her to sleep, would this be the right thing to do? i dont want to give her to a new home as i dont want that person to deal with what im going thru.

No putting her down at this stage would not be right. this sort of behavior can be down to several things. either a urinary infection

Or behavioral brought on my something which is distressing her. This is more likely.

Also having her checked over by a vet would also be a good idea. At her age she may be suffering from some other age related illness which could be causing the distress and which you have not noticed.
