5 month old kitten nursing again

i have a 5 month old kitten who stopped nursing 3 months ago. since then the mom cat is nursing month old kittens and now the 5 month old kitten is nursing again also. the mom cat lets her and licks her as she nurses and isnt mean to her but is this normal.

Hi yes this can happen from time to time but it should not be encouraged. Normally the mother cat will sort the problem out and stop her from nursing. If your mum cat already has another litter then she will soon want to chase off her older kittens anyway to make room for her new brood.

by the way can i just say that it can be very damaging to a cats health to have too many litters close to each other as this can weaken the cats health and also the kittens too. i'm sure you knew that anyway but I just wanted to say.

if you are going to have the mother cat spayed this can be done once she has weaned her kittens between 8 and 12 weeks and should not be allowed out around un neutered toms until then.
