Byron and Shelley's Latest Diary Entry Well since the last post in May where I reported that we had been having non stop rain, things have only got worse. Yes June here in the UK has been one big wash out. In fact flooding has been the order of the day rather than sun-bathing. All this rain does mean of course that I have had two very bored, very fed up and a little grumpy cats. The order of the day seems to be, sleep, eat, look out of window and sit at my feet pleading for games all day. i can tell you, i really am rather fed up of a certain toy mouse. I'm sure he is fed up too with me throwing him here there and everywhere in the vain hope of trying to entertain my kitties. Article - Stop Cat Spraying In The Home Cat Spraying from the cat owner's point of view is rather unpleasant especially when it happens inside the home. I have been very lucky, I have owned many cats and have never had this issue but many of my sites visitors have and they often ask me how they can stop it. I have written this page to try and address this cat problem which is not always that easy to solve. It very much depends on the cause of the cat spraying, the cat's temperament and the willingness of the owner to put some time into resolving it. The causes of spraying are covered on my cat urine page and it is a good idea to read that first so that you know why your cat may be displaying this natural behaviors within your home. How Do I Stop My Cat From Spraying? Because a lot of cat spraying is caused by territorial issues the best way to stop the cat scent marking is to have it neutered. Both Unneutered / spayed male and female cats feel the need to scent mark and by removing the desire to be competitive with other cats in the area you reduce the occurrences of marking. If your cat keeps on spraying in the same places inside your home it could be that the cat can still smell their urine from previous markings and this will encourage them to use the spot again. There are a few methods you could try to break this habit. Thoroughly clean the area with a special odor eliminator. Ordinary household disinfectant will not get rid of the smell. If a cat can smell even the smallest amount of urine it will encourage them to scent there again.   Put your cat's food bowl over or near the area, as they will not want to urinate near to their food.
