Acceptance of a New Cat to the Family

When bringing a new male cat (1-1/2 years) into a home where the existing female cat has been for years, how long will it take the male to be accepted? They are still hissing, but it has only been one day.

well there is no one answer I can give to this question as some cats will eventually settle down with another cat in the home and others never will.

However it is very important that you introduce them to each other in a certain way so that they can build up their confidence with each other without the fear of being attacked etc.
