cat behaviour after recent work done in house

my cat got scared when i had work done in my home , i couldn't find him for 5 days and he was hiding in my dirt cellar, he was not injured but meows alot now and follows me around and if i try to go into the basement he trys to sneak back down there.. he has never been down there before cept when he got lost. i just wanted to know if he will go back to the way he acted before.

Hi well yes as long as he can feel secure in his home again. It definitely sounds like he has become a little insecure and is unsure of himself and his surroundings.

If it has only been a week or so then wait a few more days to see if he recovers. if not then you may have to consider some time in one room for a few days with his litter tray and toys etc. this often helps them to settle down as they have less to worry about in a smaller area.

Stay calm around him, give him lots of things to distract him, perhaps some new toys etc and yes he should return to normal.
