Cat doesn't like back being touched any more

by Marc

My cat used to let me stroke her back, but now when I do it she "winces" or kind of shakes a little. As she is an indoor cat, I know she did not hurt herself out of the house. I cant figure it out. She is due for an appt next month, but I was trying to get some insight on this problem. Thank you Marc

Hi
well it could be a skin allergy of some sort. My old cat was allergic to flea bites and even though she was flea free if one bit her outside she would get what i call rippling back.

There are many different skin conditions and allergies and your vet will be able to take a close look to see if there are any obvious signs etc.

As long as you dont think she is in distress or her behavior has not changed dramatically in other ways ie not eating toilet problems etc then waiting for your visit is probably Ok. but if you suspect any discomfort or difficulty then perhaps bring your vet appt forward would be a good idea.

i have a couple of pages which you may find of further interest here

Feline hyperesthesia syndrome?
by: Taofeld

I'm probably years late in replying to this, but this sounds like Feline hyperesthesia syndrome, which my cat has. It's usually not a huge deal (just avoid patting her on the base of her tail), but it was definitely aggravated and had more symptoms when she got a case of the fleas.

Flee bite allergy
by: Allyson

I just read your comment about your cat not having flees but outdoor flee bites that would make your cat uncomfortable with back touches....that's happening to my cat. What helps?
