cat grooming all the time

My cat is about 9 years old. She lives indoors. Has been very healthy.

However, lately she has started licking more than usual almost obsessively. When she wants to take a nap she seems irritated that she needs to lick some more.
A lot on her front paws and under he neck and on her shoulder. (There are no sores that I ssee. She does not have worms or fles...she lives inside totally) He eat Science Diet hairball food. I have always used the tidy cat crystal blend. However, the last two times I tried the tidy cats power blend. There didn't look to be much of a difference to me. When I touch her anywhere it is like her skin crawls a little and she starts licking. The top of her head doesn't see to make her lick. Seems unusual just all of the sudden. She looks perfectly healthy. Thank you!

Hi well it could be a allergy. perhaps the different type of litter has irritated his skin.

Please see my page about cat allergies for more information

The other option is that he may be feeling stressed about something and is over grooming.
