cat has scruffy fur

My cat's fur has become scruffy and not laying flat to his body. Is this an indication of an oncoming or existing illness. Does seem to be sleeping marginally more.

well yes it could be a sign of illness as often when a cats overall health is affected then it will often show in the condition of the coat.

You did not say how old your cat is. If he is very old he may be having difficulty grooming himself properly and may need some extra help from you in this department.
