Cat in heat being licked.

I have a 6 year old female cat who is fixed who is biting and licking the butt/vagina of my 11 month old female kitten who has gone into heat. She has never done this before, and I'm curious why she is doing this. There is a male in the house that is fixed that keeps trying to mount the kitten but the female will hold her down and lick her. The fixed female was pregnant before I got her and the kittens had died inside her, leading to the emergency removal of the kittens and reproductive organs. I've had her for a couple of years and introduced the kitten last year around August. They have a rocky relationship but are getting better about each other. This is my kitten's first estrous cycle and I'm curious if I should be concerned or what.

Hi, i don't think it is anything to worry about. It sounds to me like your cats are reacting to the scent that your kitten will be giving off at this time. Both male and female cats will react to this and sometimes in strange ways.

The scent sort of drives them a little bit crazy as it is related to instinct rather than any real desire or need.

Or course having your kitten spayed would help the whole family of cats settle down with each other much better and would cause less upset amongst the cats.
