cat keeps pooping on herself after giving birth

Hello my cat Kiki started having very runny poop and keeps on pooping on herself, her kittens and anywhere else she may go. She also is cleanning her bottom nonstop. Her appitite is good and she is drinking good. What could be wrong? This also started a few hours after giving birth and it has been a week today.

Hi
This is not good for either your cat or her kittens and sounds to me like she has a nasty tummy bug. If this has been going on for a week now she definitely needs to see a vet as soon as possible as she obviously needs some medication to try and cure her diarrhea. Your vet will also be able to check for worms too and give you advice re the kittens health too.

Hope she is better soon

best wishes Kate

It's completely normal !
by: Anahi

Well my cat had her babies a few days ago and I've noticed the same .Her stool coming a little loose not the normal for a cat that just delivered 3 kittens a few days ago I was scared but I called my vet a few minutes ago and apparently that's normal your cat it's just getting used to the hormonal changes in her body that's why their stool it's coming out like that just make sure her litter is around her by all means necessary. Another thing my vet said is feeding her some plain yogurt until you see that she's getting better and her stool has changed then you can change her to regular food . But it's completely normal no need to go to the vet unless it gets worse than that yes but she'll be just fine :)

Thank You

It has taken ages to find a good answer but this is exactly what has been happening to my cat.... Tummy bug seems logical but..... it could also have something to do with producing too much milk and its going straight through her body....... giving her the runs...... whilst she is feeding the kittens she might not have enough time to get to the litter tray..... hope this helps.
