I HAVE A 4 YR. OLD MALE CAT WHO HAS BECOME OBSSESED WITH TRYING TO SCRATCH THREAD OUT OF BLANKETS, COMFORTERS AND SHEETS. HOW CAN I STOP THIS. I HAVE TRIED A STERN NO, TAPPING HIS NOSE OR BUTT, PUTTING HIM OUT OF BEDROOM. NOTHING HAS WORKED. HE DOES THIS AND LOOKS TO SEE IF I AM WATCHNG. HE IS ALL WHITE, PART PERSIAN WITH BLUE EYES.

Hi
normally cats will carry out the scratching behavior because they are bored or frustrated in some way. If this is the case then it is importnat to give them other things in the home to distract them and keep them happy, such as climbing posts and toys of various kinds.

There are also some deterrent sprays that you can try but i don't know how they will smell to us on blankets etc.

There is more information here on my site

Are you sure he is not just kneading the material? This is a sort of comforting / making their bed action. My cats do this and so I have to cover their favorite sleeping places with their own cat blankets etc.

Also make sure your cats claws are trimmed. he may be doing this behavior to try and file them down (not realizing of course that cloth won't so this :) )
