Cat Losing Weight

I have an adult male cat, about 6 years old. We recently noticed that over the last few months he has started losing weight, to the point that we can feel his bones. He has always been slim, but this seems far too extreme. We have not changed his food (Kirkland Signature Adult Cat food), and he has all day access to it (neither of our cats are overweight, so it has never been a problem.) We do see him eating regularly. I have noticed a few times lately (maybe twice a week or so) that he has thrown up bile...but again, this is something that he has done in the past. I have noticed over the last month or so that he has let his coat go a little, too. He normally grooms himself impeccably, and I found a mat of fur under his chin, on his throat. I am getting very nervous about his weight loss - any advice?

hi yes my advice is to get him seen by a vet as soon as you can. weight loss can be indication of several possible illnesses, two of which are diabetes or thyroid conditions.

blood work will have to be taken to determine the possible cause but the sooner you can get him seen the better. in most cases these conditions can be successfully treated, so don't worry too much.

My own cat had a thyroid condition and after treatment she was back to her old happy self again.

best wishes Kate
