cat losses weight

we have a 8yr old always big and healthy cat about 10.lbs but within the past week he has lost alot of weight now weighs about 2. lbs, we didnt change his food or anything diffrent what could be wrong?

You must get him checked by a vet soon. he may have a thyroid problem which causes rapid weight loss or some other condition which is doing the same. I am not a vet and couldn't possibly diagnose what the problem is.
It is important that your cat sees a vet soon before he looses too much weight.
