cat poohing in strange places

hi can any body help i have a 9 year old cat who recently had accidents in the house at night. so i got his litter tray back out since that it is getting worse he is poohing in strangest places 3 times in cupbord under the stairs on advent calender left on floor.and the crazyist was climbing on kitchen work top and poohing in tin of choclates. y not in litter tray or on floor x please any ideas

Hi there are two possibilities here. Either he has an underlining illness which is causing this behavior or it is caused by something which has happened which has made him feel insecure and upset. In which case he is using his poo as a strong scent and territory marker.

If you feel there could be an underlining illness then taking him for a check up is the best option. otherwise try the training method mentioned on the above page to see if this helps him.
