We adopted a 2 year old cat a month ago, He stays under the bed most of the time but does come out in the AM for food will follow downstairs and eat alittle but if you move wile he's eating he bolts up the stairs. At night he comes out when we go to bed and wants to be petted and he purrs but if you move the wrong way or try to pick him up he bolts away. What can we do, I would like him to spend time with us in the evening down in the living room. Please help

Hi
Sadly this is often the case with some cats. we simply don't know what their previous experiences were which may have caused them to be extremely sacred of people. Also some cats are just a little more timid than others.
Time is the key really, the longer he is with you and he realizes that you are not foes but carers and as he settles into his new home, he should start to come out of his shell. But be warned some cats always remain tentative./
i have two pages here on the site which I think may be of help. one is some information about scared cats and the other is about bonding with a cat. i hope they can help
