Cat scratching her butt on carpet?

Why is she doing this? She just started recently. She is a fat cat. Also, any suggestions on reducing her weight. I had been told that dry makes them overweight so now she gets wet and a little dry. Your comments? thx

often when cats do this it is because they have some discomfort in this area. it could be blocked anal glands or an infection. She needs to see a vet about this to have it properly diagnosed and treated.

As for her weight. no dry food does not make them over weight as long as they only eat the daily recommended amounts, just like any other food. Dry food has more calories in than wet and that is why they don't need to eat so much of it.

It is also important that the cats gets plenty of exercise too, so encouraging her to play everyday will also help her weight.
