Cat starts Licking

My Cat, Jaymee, is 12 years old. Recently I have noticed if you rub or scratch around her tailbone. She would start licking, or just constantly sticking her tongue out as if she is licking something.

About 3 years ago she has a lump removed from the base of her tail, around the same area. She has always been defencive of her tail....or just the tip of her tail(blackish tail, Gray tip) she just got annoyed of my other younger cat swatting at her gray tip.

Hi well I really don't know what to say to this question. It may just be a reflex which makes her do this or the area may feel itchy or even hurt.

Take a look at the skin area the area to see if you can see any changes in colour or signs of fleas or mites (this is a area where fleas like to gather).

All i can suggest is that if your cat continues this and it appear to be causing her some distress or discomfort or if other symptoms appear take her to the vets to make sure that whatever causes the original lump is not returning. because she has had problems in this area before i would always want to seek a vets opinion if new symptoms appeared.

i hope all is well again soon

best wishes Kate
