Cat urinated on carpet 1st time ever after 9yrs

My cat just urinated in front of me on my carpet. My cat is male fixed and he has never used anything but the litter box the whole time I have had him.

The litter box is not anything out of the ordinary and he is not showing any signs of a UTI. What could have possibly caused this behavior?

There are two possible causes for cats to display this sort of behavior. either they have a UTI, which is more common in male cats cat urinary problems.html

Or it is behavioral caused by anxiety. The trouble is the anxiety could be caused by many things. from new furniture in the home, different smells, different routines etc. it all depends on the cat and how well they deal with change etc. The anxiety may also be due to feeling unwell too, so as you can see it is not a simple case to diagnose.

You will have to be a bit of a detective to try and discover what could possibly be causing the anxiety if you feel it is not due to a UTI.
