cat vomits almost every night ,

my cat is about 5 years old and he seems to vomit either every night or every other day. he has long hair, but most of the vomit is whole bits of cat food. we feed him twice a day (purina naturals cat chow). any suggestions?

Well it could be hairballs. Long haired cats are more prone to this and if he has food in his stomach when he wretches then it is not surprising that the food comes up too.
the other option is that he is not chewing his food properly and swallowing it down causing him to be sick. My own cat used to do this and be sick all the time. This can either be because he has some bad teeth causing him pain to chew or he is anxious when eating and trying to get it all down quickly.
the best thing for you to do is to have him checked at the vets in case he does need some dental work. if he gets the all clear you could try feeding him smaller amounts of food but more often throughout the day to stop him eating too much all at once. Also it is important to groom him several times a week to prevent the hairballs.
best wishes kate
