Cat wetting herself

by Claire

My cat has had problems with her legs for some time, today she cannot stand and has been constantly wetting herself. I've bathed her, but can't keep doing this because I understand that too much bathing isn't good. What can I do to keep her clean? She's going to the vet on Monday and suspect it's time for us to let go, but I want to keep her as comfortable as possible. Please help. It's breaking my heart to see her like this.

Hi
I can completely sympathize with you, it is always hard to watch out cats when they are sick.

It may be that your cat has some paralysis in her spine which is causing her to wet herself and be unable to walk. This may not be permanent but your vet will be able to advise on this.

As for keeping your cat comfortable you are doing everything you can. Instead of bathing her you could just wipe her sown with a cloth until Monday. this will be less traumatic for her and help to keep her reasonably clean and comfortable.

All you can provide for her is box which is lines with screwed up paper so that you can remove what becomes wet. Make sure water and food is very close for her to reach and give her lots of reassurance.

your presence will help to keep her relaxed.

I do hope that there is something that can be done.

best wishes kate

I was curious to how your cat got on at the vet?
