cat with anal discharge problem
by Sarah
My cat is seven years old and fabulous, but the last couple of years she has started to get poop (or what looks like it) stuck in her but... where it's just a little bit hanging out, but it never goes away until either I, or my vet, pull it out. (the vet once told me it's not poop, but a gel type substance that helps her poop?) She is a short hair cat, and healthy other than this issue. Is there anything I can do rather than taking her to the vet every few months? BTW.. I haven't ever gottan a clear answer from the vet for why this happens.

Hi
well i can honestly say i have not come across this before.
It sounds to me like she may have a problem whith her actual bowel ie it either over produces this substance or is misshapen slight;y causing this to happen.
i really can't advise as to what you can do about this but if it were me i would find another vet to get another opinion on this and this time really quiz them on the possible causes and also how best to handle this. A good vet should be able to give you lots of information so that you are better able to deal with the issue. Even if unfortunately it is the case that it cant be treated only managed.
I hope you an can get some answers soon for both of your sakes, it can't be pleasant for either of you.
best wishes Kate
