Hair lose on tail and back

Hair lose on tail and back

I have a 5 year old cat who all of a sudden started losing hair on her tail and the back of her hind legs. I have not changed anything in the house and she does not go outside. She doesn't have fleas could this still be a parasite?? I have another cat and a small beagle in the house but both are fine and showing no signs of anything. If it was a parasite wouldn't they have caught this to after a week of it??? I have also heard that it could be an emotional thing due to her not being spayed yet. Is that true??? Here is a picture of her hair loss..

There are many causes of fur lose (see my page here about it https://www.our-happy-cat.com/cat-hair-loss.html) and yes stress can be a cuse but the best thing to do is to get her checked by a vet to rule out any skin allergies or conditions first. At least that way you know if you are dealing with a physical or emotional problem.

The fur loss doues look rather nasty, I would get it checked as soon as possible.

best wishes Kate

Missing fur on back legs, tail, front legs
by: Sherrie

Hello, my kitty had this too, along w excessive itching. I began itching as well/ sinus issues/ other.. My kitty is on Revolution so no fleas and he’s neutered. It was found my AC was loaded with mold n fungus n just filthy. I had to have it cleaned n not just filter changed. Me n my kitty both were suffering terribly. Mold/ fungus allergies. One thing that helped him greatly for itch relief… 50/50 apple cider vinegar n water n dabbed on his itchy places n missing fur. N mold removal. Hope this helps.

The cat may groom excessively because of a stress. It was happening to my cat when we moved to a different place. I had to keep her in a room for a while and notice the hair loss on her belly. But after a couple of months she was ok and her hair grew back.

flea allergy?

One of my cats has this issue - but before the hair loss (as the cat actually licks himself bald) the issue started when he developed a rodent ulcer - antibiotics were given but the next year he started with the hair loss and cloudiness in one of his eyes - turns out the rodent ulcer was an early warning sign that the cat is allergic to fleas - all it takes is one flea bite - his immune system goes into overdrive turning on itself hence why the cat licks himself bald - it's worth checking out that the cat may have a flea allergy.

Our cat never had any issues until the rodent ulcer - which isn't caused by rodents - but is often a good indication there is an allergy. He didn't develop this allergy until he was 2-3 years old
