cat won't eat properly

My cat came and lived at our house about 6 years ago. The vet says she is about 8. She is a very good cat and have never had a problem with her. I would feed her at 16:30 (meat and dry cubes) as well as in the morning at about 8:00 (but not as much). Now all of a sudden I feed her, she eats for 5 minutes and then doesnt eat the rest - but will ask for more food and only eat it if it is brand new food. If her food stands for about 30 minutes she wont eat it. We have not changed her brand of food because she eats it when I give it to her but not when it stands. Please help!!

When i read your question I smiled as it sounded just like my little ball of fur. Who her life has been a very fussy difficult eater and you wouldn't belive some of the silly tricks we have made up over the years to get her to eat. Things like pretending to add more food to the dish with us holding the can and banging the fork in the tin and stirring her food in the disk, suddenly its yummy again.
The other thing is that your cat may be having some smell issues ie a cat will only eat really strong smelly food. You could try adding a little warm water to the food. we find that helps too.
