Cats Anal leakage

Hello. I have a male cat he is a year old. I am a broke college student so I thought I would ask here to see if it is something serious before I take him to the vet.

When I picked the cat up he smelled really badly, so I checked to see whether he had poo stuck on his tail. The smell did not smell like poo, but I could definitely tell that it was coming from that area, so I looked and a very small amount of this grayish, white liquid came out. He was annoyed at me trying to touch his tail region, but I dont know if this is because it hurts, or he just hates to be touched there (when he has had poo get caught on fur before he didnt like it when I tried to clean it off). He also has really bad gas. He's gotten all his shots and has been to the vet for all his normal checkups and the vet gave him a clean bill of health before this happened. Any suggestions? (I dont think its his anal glands. I youtubed a video of a cat's anal glands being expressed and that does not look anything like the fluid that hes been experiencing)

Thanks so much!

Hi well when anything like this is excreted from the rear end I always suggest that it could be some sort of internal infection. Especially as you say it smells.

It could be caused by parasites inside like worms or it may be associated with another intestinal illness..

To be honest with you, you really do need to take him to the vets to get this cleared up before it gets any worse. he may need a course of antibiotics or even further investigation. the vet will be able to give you an estimate of any costs involved and also if there is any financial help available in your area.

best wishes and I hope it can be cleared up quickly.

Kate
