Found a one month old kitten.

My sister found an abandoned kitten that is about one or two months old, and she can't tell our parents because they would make her give it away to the shelter. So she is feeding it kitten food, giving it water, and introducing it to the litter box, all in her room. I was wondering if you could tell us how to care for it for only a week till we can tell our parents. We plan to try taking care of it for about a week, and then breaking the news. Also, the kitten needs to be checked up on by a vet. It also seems to have a hurt foot. We really want to keep this kitten but we want to make sure its safe and healthy. Can we take it to the vet on our own? Please help us figure this out, thanks.

Yes you can take the kitten to the vet on your own of course but you will have to pay for the visit and the treatment.
I have lots of pages here on my site about how to take care of kittens. read through them all so that you have a really good understandingb or what is required. remember they will also need to have vaccinations and be spayed.neutered in the near future, so again you must be able to pay for this treatment. owning a cat has lots of responsibilities, so be sure that you are prepared to take proper care of them and also be able to pay for vets treatment etc.
if your parents are worried about future vets bills etc, they could always take out a fairly cheap monthly insurance policy to protect against this. I did and it saved me lots of money over the years.
here is the first kitten page the rest are on the top right of the page.
