How can I put weight on my senior cat?

Pooky in the sun.

My cat Pooky is a 16 or 17 year old petite Siamese. She's always been small, around 7 or so pounds. Lately she's been having health problems and experiences at the vet that caused her to lose weight, but she's always gained it back. Now she's been looking thinner than normal, but we leave her out dry food 24-7. We've been feeding her soft canned food, which she seems to enjoy. I just want to know how I can plump her up to her normal weight, or more, so she could be healthier. How can I do that without forcing food down her throat?

Basically you can't if she is eating normally and you are feeding her food suited to the senior cat which is formulated to give the nutrition an older cat requires.

It is normal for older cats to loose weight or be thinner than they were when they were younger. Our own cat is the same now she has got older.

Having said all that if you feel that she is thinner than normal then i would suggest telling the vet about this as their are some illnesses which can cause this i.e thyroid problems.

She is a beutiful cat.

best wishes Kate
