How do i give my cat access to the outside?

I live in a second floor flat and have had a cat for only a few weeks. I really want to give her access to the outside. Several people mentioned seeing 'cat ramps' or walkways that allow cats to get them selves down to ground level. But, I can't find anything of the sort and i was wondering if you new of an online site where i might find something. The only other option that's been suggested to me is that i lower her down in a basket - which makes me nervous. Many Thanks - Rosa

hi
the cat ramps you mention are designed for getting disabled or old cats up and down a few steps or onto a chair etc. they are not designed for very high places and would not be long enough.

As for the cat basket idea, nice idea but it just wouldn't work as the cat is likely to jump out before it reaches the ground.

Unfortunately the real way is to physically let them out your front door and down stairs and out. i have known people whose flats allow them to fit a cat flap to the main front door and the flat door but I'm not sure that many would agree.

i lived in a first floor flat once and my cat was quite happy to be let out my door and then i would go down and let them out the main door. then i would keep an eye out the front and see her sitting waiting to be let in. It worked very well.

best wishes Kate
