Is my cat sick as he poops outside of his tray?

My boyfriend and I recently adopted a 11 month old male cat. He had some problems getting used to his litter box when he first arrived however that cleared up pretty quickly. Now he is pooping outside of his litter box again and it is quite runny and yellowish. He is eating fine and drinking, and he plays around like he always did. The only difference we have noticed is that he has been meowing a lot more than usual, but he doesn't seem to be in any pain.

Hi
well pooping outside of the litter box is usually because the cat is in some distress about something. This may be behavioral ie marking their territory or it could be due to not feeling himself due to illness.

Because his poop is not as it should be, some form of illness would seem to be the possible culprit. If this has been going on for more than a few days I would definitely suggest that your first port of call needs to be the vets.

It is always advisable to rule out an underlying illness before considering a behavioral issue.

Hopefully the vet can clear up any possible illness quickly and this will also stop the pooping outside of the litter box issue. If not then a period of re training may be in order see this page for more on this
