why do kittens lay and play in their litter box and how to you stop them from doing that thank you

I don't think we really know for sure why they do this and not all of them do.

I would try changing the litter type to see if this helps ,perhaps one which has a scent of its own so that any scent of urine is not the strongest scent. It may be that he can smell urine and this is stimulating him in some way.
