what does it mean when my male cat tries to take care of my female cats kittens?

Well i don't think it means anything other than he has a very nurturing nature. Some male cats are more family orientated (just like some human men perhaps).

I have heard of male cats taking a big interest in new born kittens, so i don't think it it is anything to worry about. Just keep an eye on him to make sure he is not to rough with them, but i think the mum cat would soon put him in his place if he was doing things wrong.
