mangy cat hair

my cat has suddenly got matted looking hair.you can't get a brush through it. he has lost a little weight but it has been very hot and humid here.does their fur do that when they shed?

cats with longer fur tend to get matted fur because they are not able to grrom themselves sufficiently and grt and dirt builds up in the fur. This is why regular grooming is also necessary.

Unfortunately once the fur becomes matted like this it has to be professionally removed by a vet or groomers as it can be very difficult and painful to cut away without the proper tools and technique.

Of course the hot weather may have made the problem worse because of moisture build up which would make dirt stick to the fur easier.
