Missing cat's return not welcome

by Denise
(Florida)

I have raised three sibling kittens who are now almost 4 years old. All neutered/spayed. One disappeared for 8 days and returned very thin and with an injury to her rear leg. She has been home two weeks and is nearly healed; however, the other two cats will have nothing to do with her. They do not even want to eat with her. Any idea why they behave this way?

Answer from Kate
Hi
well cats even siblings can get used to having their own space and while she was gone they may have settled into a new routine with their own new territories etc. However it is also likely that your cats behavior, smell etc are different since her trip away and this change will be unnerving for the other cats, so its as if they do not know her.

you could try a period of reintroduction to help them relax again around her. the procedure for this can be found on this page

best wishes Kate
