Mother cat Has a hole in her belly

by Trisha

OK so i have a mother cat who has this hole in her belly in between two nipples its on the right side, its leaking orangeish thick pus and is extremly painful for her. my biggest concern is that when i woke up today all the kittens had pus all over them and im really scared. i do not have enough money to take her to the vet so i have to treat her at home. she also was a out door kitty until she had the kittens and is one of the most behaved cats ive ever seen. please help me to figure out what this could be and how it might be able to treat this.

Hi
I don't know how to begin to answer this. I don't understand how you are going to be able to look after your cat and her kittens if you say you can't afford to take them to a vet. They will need vaccinations and neutering etc within the next few months let alone all their nutritional requirements.

A hole in the skin is going to be and sound s like it is already infected. If this is not treated with antibiotics from the vet she will become weak herself and not be able to provide the quality of milk the kittens will require, let alone the possibility of her not recovering from it.

I don't know what could have caused the hole in the first place. infection can eat away at the skin and cause nasty abscesses which look like holes so perhaps this is the case here.

All you can do is to keep it clean with warm water. But as i say I'm sorry she really does need to see a vet and soon. if the pus is so bad that it gets on the kittens too then this sounds like a severe infection and could harm the kittens too as they are feeding.

please check with your local vet to see if there are any services in your area where you can help or free vet care. There are many animal charities around these days who's soul purpose to help suffering sick animals. see my page here for animal charities in your area.
