mother cat odd behavior
we adopted a pregnant stray 11 weeks ago. Her kittens are now 8 weeks old. They all seemed to move to dry food over the last couple of weeks; I don't believe they are nursing now at all. The mom's belly still seems swollen. She was dewormed last week. She is now rubbing her belly by stretching out and swaying back and forth. She also sort of squats her back legs very oddly as she stretches out. She is vocal; sometimes sort of yawling. I'm assuming she's uncomfortable -- maybe trying to get rid of unused milk? Don't know if this is typical or if she needs vet help. ANy ideas?

Hi
yes it is possible that if all the kittens are not feeding any more then her body may still be producing milk which is not being used. At 8 weeks it is the normal time for kittens to move to solid food but they will often still want the occasional feed from mum too.
mother nature has its own way of sorting things out and normally no intervention from us is needed.
My advice would be to keep an eye on your mother cat for a few days and see if she improves. if not or if she appears to be in more discomfort then contact your vet who may be able to prescribe something which will help to dry up her milk.
best wishes Kate
