Moving house with a very nervous cat
by Abel
(Malaysia)
Hi Kate, I have a a very nervous female cat. She hates strangers and loud noises. When everything is calm, she's scared of everybody except my parents and me. In a chaotic environment, she just can't think straight and ran off like a bat out of hell and won't come back until everything is calm.
I'm moving to a new place. It's just 100 metres away but I'm afraid the change will traumatize her. We've just empty out the house and when she finally return home at night after everybody's gone, she looks so startled she didn't know where to go. She keeps looking left and right, and if somebody made a sudden noise, she ran out again.
I hope you can help me. I'm afraid she will run away or couldn't cope with the new place. You have no idea how happy I was to see that such website exist. I don't know what to do.
Thank you.
Worried Owner,
Abel

the secret to helping your cat move without too much truama is to take small steps and only give her small changes at a time ie introducing her to her new home one room at a time etc.
Please see my web page about moving home here https://www.our-happy-cat.com/moving-with-cat.html
It will give you some advice as to how to move your cat and how to settle her in gradually.
best wishes and I hope your move goes well
