Hi
well at 18 years old she may now be suffering from underlying health problems which may not necessarily be apparent at first and this eating more and salivating may be the first symptoms of something becoming an health issue.

My advice would be considering her age that it would be wise to take her to see a vet soon and have this checked out. It is impossible to say what the issue could be without further tests but if there is something wrong i.e thyroid problem
cat-thyroid

Then the sooner it is caught and treated the better the outcome.

The clingyness may also be an indication that she is not feeling herself and may be a little anxious and therefore seeking more comfort and attention from yourself.

I also have a page about older cats and some of the things which can happen to them health wise and which you may find of further interest here
