my cat is foaming at the mouth

My cat, Kiara, is 7 years old and until this year was strictly an indoor cat. Lately I've been letting her go explore outside, and she's been leaving the property for hours at a time. Today she was foaming at the mouth and shaking her head (presumably to shake the foam/saliva off) and acting "sick" (moaning, wanting to be near me, lying down). I can't remember if she got the rabies vaccine when she was fixed, but even so she hasn't had a booster. She seems to have stopped foaming. I also found a gel stool softener pill on the ground that was possibly bit into. Could it be the pill? a bug bite? rabies?

Thanks

There could be several things which could cause this.

Cat nip cat cause these symptoms in some cats see this video on this page

It could be that she has eaten something poisonous or indeed if rabies is prevalent in your part of the world.

My advice would be to see if the symptoms persist for more than one day or if they get worse in anyway in which case you need to get her to the vets urgently.

Lets hope she has just found some cat mint somewhere.

best wishes Kate
