My cat is meowing... a lot

My cat is meowing a lot for seemingly no reason. He just walks around meowing whether its the middle of the day or middle of the night. It disturbs our sleep oftentimes. Why is he doing it and what can we do about it?

You didn't mention how old your cat was. It can be a important factor as older cats can be affected by a condition similar to alztimers and meowing is often a symptom.

Meowing can be a sign of distress or calling for attention or just as part of game.
