My cat lost her voice 3 days ago...

At first it was scratchy, then just a whisper and has now disappeared completely. I'm very nervous and worried. Vets are closed on the weekends and this happened a Friday night. She is eating normally and acting completely normal. She still plays with her sister and all that. She is 11 pounds but we have reduced her diet about 2 months ago. I'm very scared since the research I've done has only yielded infections and throat tumors. I'm not making a lot of money and going the vet is an expensive trip. I can afford the appointment but x-rays and sedating her to do a scope is far beyond my budget right now. What should I do?

Hi the frst thing to do is not to panic and to give your cats a few more days. Cats suffer from sore throats and infections too and this can cause them to loose their voise as it were. I have had cas who this has happened to.

In the mean time you need to make sure that your cat has access to plenty of fresh water and to allow them to sleep etc as much as they want. If after 5 or 6 days it is getting no better then you could call your vet for advice.

Hopefully this is just a simple cold etc and will pass on its own.

best wishes Kate

My cat Lost her voice
by: Lolita85

My cat is 6 years old and lost her voice 4 days ago too. She has been hiding and seems to be in pain, and has excessive salivation with a bloated stomach. I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow since she is showing no signs of improvement. I hope it's nothing but don't we always?

A bit of conclusion

I am the publisher of this post. We ended up taking her to the vet and her symptoms seemed to point toward feline leukemia. They did an x-ray to see if there were any blockages in her throat such as metal or plastic but instead noticed foggy areas. It was explained to me that these areas may in fact be small tumors caused by feline leukemia. These areas were more pronounced in her throat but also extended to her chest near her heart. We have a screening set for Monday the 24th if the medication doesn't improve her health *assuming this is a respiratory issue*. They have already brought up the option of euthanasia. This is my worst nightmare.
