Pawing cat

Hi, we have a 6 month old kitten that we rescued at 3 weeks during the drought this summer. She was the only one who lived between the mother and her litter mates. Out of all the cats we've rescued we've never had a cat that does what this one, Pearl, does. After she has finished eating or did not like what we gave her (dry cat food) she will paw the air above her food bowl for about 30 seconds. She also does this when she is done using the litter box. She will paw the air, the side of the litter box, or the wall. Pearl does this almost every time she eats or uses the litter box. Sometimes if shes been messing with the dog she will continually sit with one paw in the air up towards her face, then will paw the air. I just figured it's her way of telling us she's done with her food and the litter box. My mom insists someone find out why she's doing this. Thanks!

Hi
How cute, well it sounds cute to me. I can honestly say that i have not seen this behavior before but i really don't think it is anything ton worry about.

As you say it may simply be a little habit that your cat does, it may have a meaning or it may simply be something she has done since she was young and so is now just a habit.

Perhaps someone else here will have seen a similar thing and be able to advise further.

best wishes Kate
