Queen cat gives birth and starts pooping on carpet

I took in a pregnant stray three weeks ago. She was litter trained right away. She had four kittens on Friday ( the 1st one in the litter box). She has now begun to poop near my upstairs bedroom. She continues to pee in litter. Why do you suppose she is doing this. Tell me itvisvour not her leaving me a 'gift'.

hi
No cats don't leave poop as gifts its usually something far more disgusting like a chewed up mouse or bird head :)
It sounds to me like she is marking her territory as she may be feeling a little anxious and insecure since her kittens were born.
Sometimes a new mother cat may be very anxious about the safety of her kittens and so they will often scent mark their environment to one, try and keep other cats away and two it helps them to calm down as the home smells more of them. This behavior is called middening.
i have a page of information about this here
https://www.our-happy-cat.com/cat-poo.htmlShe will probably calm down in a few days time. you may want to move her and her kittens into a smaller room with their litter tray as this may help her feel more secure.
best wishes Kate
