recently neutered male cat obsessive licking?

I have a 3yr old white male cat, he was neutered in january and has become a lay about which is lovely having him at home. But recently he has begun to continuously lick his abdomen! He licks it so much that it removes the hair n he is making sores on himself. There is absolutely no obvious signs for this behavior and he seems quite relaxed when doing it, any ideas what the cause could be?

This sort of behavior can be down to one of two reasons. Either there is a parasite or allergy issue

Or he is doing it because he feels anxious about something. This is known as over grooming. And could be caused by changes in the home or if he is still sore this may be making him feel anxious.

Your best option is to take him to see the vet so that a p[roper diagnosis can be made. If he is still in some discomfort then the vet will be able to sort this out for you.
