How do you stop stray cats from deficating in a common garden area?

Answer by Kate
Difficult.
There are products available that you can sprinkle around which is supposed to deter them. You can also try spraying lemon juice and water as cats don't like citrus smells.
Other than that you can try and resort to scare tactics. Again i belive their are machines on the market designed to make a loud noise to frighten cats off. Or you can hang shiny mobiles around (my neighbour uses old CD's around the base of her bushes).
A part from that i'm nor sure there is much else you can do.

Garden litter box

I had this problem years back, neighbors had at least a dozen cats, I had two.
I ended up sprinkling cyanne pepper around edges and spots heavily used as bathroon. Worked great, didn't have to use after awhile.

Coffee grounds

I just read in a magazine that coffee grounds sprinkled in your flower beds deters cats, they don't like the smell. Also it said that used or unused coffee grounds work the same. I have begun saving my used grounds to sprinkle out there, but don't know yet if it has helped.

i had the same problem also and layed down some pieces of chicken wire around the plants just on top of the soil and it does seem to deter them.
