sudden cat problem...

cat was fine until this morning... he is a male cat, fixed and declawed, 11 years old, about 12 pounds old, has has all his annual shots... he eats well, alternating between canned cat food and crunchy cat food, he urinates normally and defecates normally... no problems at all until this morning... signs that he threw up, cries off and on, pants for awhile then stops then does it again... tries to get up from laying on each side, but seems paralyzed... I probed to see if anything elicits pain or crying, it does not... no injuries visible... only other cat in house lives in the basement but they absolutely NEVER have contact of any sort... no fleas or tick problem of any sort that I am aware of... both cats are absolutely NOT outdoor cats... sorry, no picture available... problem started at 3 in the morning, as of this message, he has remained this way for about an hour and a half... he will be laying down, occasionally crying, but seems to want to remain lying at the moment and does not seem in pain, other than wanting to stand on all fours but unable to... can you give some indication until I am able to get him to the vet?... would gratefully and greatly appreciate anything you can provide...

Hi well it is very difficult to say really what it could be. he may have eaten something bad, or he may have an internal infection. either way he really does need to see the vet as soon as possible. In the mean time all you can do for him is to be with him, remain calm, do not fuss him too much. try to make him as comfortable as possible and bring his food and water etc close to him so that he can get to them easily.

I do hope he is better soon, I would interested to know what the vet diagnoses as this does sound rather strange.

best wishes Kate
