Suddenly naughty cat!

We have had this cat for a little over 2 years. Suddenly in the last 2 months he has started getting into food on the counter and most recently the garbage. What would cause him to start doing this? Could there be something medical? There have been no changes in the home.

well it is possible that he may have something wrong with him which has increased his appitite and so making him go in search of more food. A thyroid problem is one cause but the only real way to be sure is to get the vet to do a blood test.
Cats are never naughty, everything they do is because of something so if this is unusual behavior for your cat then i would assume that something could be wrong.
